On a chilly, wet evening, Hilary Grunthal offered to drive her friend’s helper home after a long and busy day. Hilary, also tired from dealing with her daughter’s move overseas, never imagined that the short drive would end up with her stranded on a cold, dark street near the Orchards School, in Johannesburg North.
“As we left the complex, Anna told me to drive on a back route and avoid the traffic congestion on Louis Botha Avenue,” says Hilary. After dropping Anna off, Hilary proceeded to drive home alone, in the dark. It had been raining and the road was wet. “But seeing as I use that road regularly, I didn’t think I would come across any problems,” she recalls. However, she ended up driving into a pothole and soon realised that something was wrong with her car.
“As I turned the corner, my phone rang. It was Discovery Insure. The operator said my DQ-Track had registered an ImpactAlert and proceeded to check whether I was okay and if I needed roadside assistance.”
