Discovery World Triathlon Cape Town

The World Triathlon Series consists of Peak performance and mass participation events, aligning with Discovery’s sponsorship strategy. The Discovery World Triathlon Cape Town provides a fantastic platform to spread the message and educate more people about the importance of taking responsibility for their own health and wellbeing. As an international event, the Cape Town leg of the World Triathlon is one of the most beautiful and sought-after events in the world of triathlon.

A joint venture was formed between Lagardère Unlimited, Iain Banner, and WORLDSPORT with the goal of bidding for and securing the first World Triathlon Series to be hosted on the African continent. The City of Cape Town endorsed the bidding process and in September 2013 the Series was successfully secured from ITU.

An event officially launching the Series to the South African media and relevant stakeholders was held at the Lookout, V&A Waterfront, on 22 November 2013, where after, registration opened to the public on 17 December 2013.

South African industry leading brands answered the call to endorse a world renowned event like the ITU World Triathlon Series and have thrown their weight behind the series, supporting the prestigious event with multi-year agreements.

The Discovery World Triathlon was staged in record time and, considering the number of entries, the quality of the participating elite athletes and the post event response from all involved, it can be considered a great success.

A good platform has been established on which the 2015 event will be built, and we look forward to continuous growth in athlete, spectator and sponsor participation, as well as lending increased exposure to the sport, the City of Cape Town and our sponsors.

The Discovery World Triathlon Series will be on the 26th and 27th of April, 2015. Entries are now open!
