With HomeCare there’s no better place to recover than at home

No matter your age, LA Health is here to help you keep well. You have cover if you need to go to hospital for a medical procedure or if you have to be monitored closely. We also give members the option to stay out of hospital or go home early if they don’t need to be in hospital.

We offer you access to excellent care at home through Discovery HomeCare, an accredited nursing agency owned by LA Health’s administrator, Discovery Health. HomeCare’s highly experienced nurses and care workers have to meet rigorous quality standards so you know you’re getting quality care.

Why it’s better to recover at home

  • Home treatment lets you avoid hospital infections.
  • You don’t have to travel to a facility and wait for a doctor or nurse to see you
  • Getting this care at home can keep you out of hospital or get you home sooner after a hospital admission.

Care you can receive at home

Wound care
Wound care for venous ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, pressure sores and other moderate to severe wounds if your condition is stable and you don’t need to be hospitalised.		 IV Infusions (drips)
Giving you medicine or enzymes through a drip if your condition is stable and you don’t need to be hospitalised.
Care after giving birth
This service offers home visits for healthy mothers and their babies if their doctor discharge them from hospital a day early. This service includes three day visits by a midwife within six weeks of the baby being born.		 End-of-life care
End-of-life care provided by nurses or care workers in partnership with the Hospice Palliative Care Association of South Africa.

We pay from your Hospital Benefit

LA Health pays for the cost of services from your Hospital Benefit so that you don’t have to use your day-to-day benefits. Just like for a hospital stay, you have to get approval before you start using HomeCare’s services.
