TFG Medical Aid Scheme covers you for the COVID-19

The first case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in South Africa.

TFG Medical Aid Scheme wants to assure you as a member of TFGMAS that your treatment for COVID-19 should you be positively diagnosed will be covered.

We are aware of several articles that are available in the public domain and in the media and want to share with you some factual information to assist you in knowing what to look out for when booking a consultation with your GP, should you suspect that you have contracted the virus.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19 infection?

The primary symptoms include:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

Doctors can only treat the symptoms of COVID-19 as they present. No specific therapy has been shown to be effective against the virus itself. If you feel ill and have any of the symptoms of infection with COVID-19 you must seek medical care early and share your previous travel history with your GP.

What will happen when your GP suspects you have contracted COVID-19?

Your GP will refer you to a State laboratory, not a private lab, as advised by the Department of Health.

Once diagnosed you will need to place yourself in self quarantine.

Your treatment will be covered from your Scheme benefits, until you are fully recovered.

It remains important to remain calm and to be assured that TFGMAS has your medical care and treatment covered should you be diagnosed and require treatment in the unfortunate event that you contract COVID-19.
