Keeping healthy this winter with the flu vaccine

It's more important than ever to keep your immune system strong so follow these guidelines to stay healthy:

  1. Wash your hands and avoid touching your face. You've heard this message before but it really is so important because it's one of the most effective ways to prevent germs from getting into your body.
  2. Get enough rest. When you're tired, your body can't fight as hard as it should. That's why we recommend prioritising your sleep.
  3. Keep your immune system strong. Stay strong and healthy by eating well, exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy weight and not smoking.
  4. Get your flu vaccine.

If you do happen to catch the flu, here are some top tips to help you recover quickly:

  1. Stay home and get lots of rest. Call in sick if you need to (remember the flu is very contagious) and take some time out to allow your body to recover.
  2. Drink lots of fluids. Any liquid counts. This helps to keep your respiratory system hydrated, turning the thick mucus into liquid so that you can cough it out and get better.
  3. Take medication. Treat your cough or fever with some over-the-counter medication to get rid of those aches and pains.
  4. Use steam. Be it a humidifier or merely sitting in your bathroom with the hot shower running, steam helps to ease congestion.
