Getting to know your Oncology Programme

The programme is available to help members who are diagnosed with cancer. The Scheme works with both patient and doctor to make sure that the treatment is affordable and works as it should.

The Scheme pays your approved cancer treatment over a 12-month cycle, starting on the date you register on the Programme up to the Oncology limit, per case for Prescribed Minimum Benefit (PMB) and Non-PMB treatment. Once the limit is exhausted in the 12-months

  • Further unlimited cover will be provided for PMB level of care treatment only, payable at the Scheme Rate.
  • Where the treatment does not meet PMB level of care, the member will be liable for the treatment costs.

To understand whether your treatment is PMB level of care, please discuss the treatment options with your healthcare provider. UKZNMS will also notify you when your limit is depleted, and your treatment is non-PMB.

It is very important to note that, when you use designated service providers, oncology treatment that is part of the PMB is always covered in full with no co-payment.

To obtain your oncology medicines without having a co-payment, you need to make use of the DSP Pharmacy Network. There are primarily two service settings catered for within the DSP arrangement: those providing medication administered in-rooms; and for medication scripted and dispensed through a retail pharmacy.

The following courier pharmacies (providing oncology specific services) are included in the DSP network offering:

  • Dis-Chem's Oncology Courier Pharmacy
  • Medipost Pharmacy
  • Qestmed
  • Olsens Pharmacy
  • Southern Rx
