Due to the uncertainties and economic pressures in 2021 from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Scheme Trustees aimed to ensure members have access to quality healthcare benefits while keeping the contribution increase as low as possible.
Every year, each medical scheme must independently consider benefit changes and contribution increases based on its membership demographics and reserves. Thanks to successful medical cost management, the UKZN Medical Scheme can pass these savings on to our members through added benefits or lower contribution increases.
The UKZN Medical Scheme successfully managed to maintain its yearly contribution increase at a level that is lower than the average open market scheme. Our Trustees considered many ways to keep contribution increases as low as possible and to assist members further, have also delayed the date of the annual contribution increase to 1 April 2022. Contributions will increase by 4.9% on this date.
