Beat increasing insurance costs with Vitalitydrive

As you know, Discovery Insure is all about good driving. We’re confident that, if more people are conscious about how they drive and make a real effort to improve their driving, 14 000 South Africans wouldn’t die on our roads each year. We’re certainly not under the illusion that this will be an easy goal to achieve, but are more optimistic than ever that we are moving in the right direction, one driver at a time. 

People are generally too optimistic about their abilities to drive well. If we were all really as good a driver as we thought we were, would there be any accidents at all? Our DQ-Track telematics technology is our breakthrough that provides an objective measure of driving ability. For years this technology has been used to assist Formula One drivers, so it made sense that it could be applied to regular drivers too. We were the first insurer globally to embed telematics into our insurance offering with ongoing monthly incentives to improve driving. Over the next 12 months, we would have paid in excess of R100 million to good drivers, giving these clients back a substantial portion of their insurance premiums. 

All insurers are severely affected by a weakening Rand seeing as a large portion of insurance costs are US Dollar denominated, for example, in the cases of motor parts for repairs, jewellery, and electronics. Regardless of who the insurer is, this means that the exchange rate will impact insurance premiums over time.

There are very few opportunities for insurance clients to counter the rising costs in premiums and the most sustainable way is to engage in the Vitalitydrive programme. This programme gives you the potential to reduce your premiums by up to R800 per vehicle per month on our Classic and Executive Plans, or up to R1 600 a month if there are two drivers on the Plan.
